10 tips to make your phone’s battery last longer

Author: Bálint Tamás

With these tips, not only will your phone last longer between charges, but the battery’s health will also remain more stable, helping to prevent premature device replacement.

Smartphones have become an essential part of our everyday lives, so it can be especially frustrating when the battery drains too quickly. The good news is that with a few simple settings and more mindful usage, you can significantly extend both your phone’s battery life and its overall lifespan.

1. Reduce screen brightness

The display is one of the biggest power consumers. Use automatic brightness adjustment or manually lower the brightness when maximum light is not necessary.

2. Enable power-saving mode

Most modern smartphones come with a power-saving or “Battery Saver” mode, which limits background activity and reduces performance to extend battery life.

3. Close unnecessary background apps

Many apps continue to consume power even when you’re not actively using them. Regularly check battery usage and close or uninstall apps you don’t need.

4. Turn off features you’re not using

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and mobile data all drain the battery even in standby mode. If you don’t need them, turn them off.

5. Use Dark Mode

On phones with OLED or AMOLED displays, Dark Mode can significantly reduce power consumption, as black pixels require little to no energy.

6. Avoid extreme temperatures

Very high or very low temperatures can damage the battery. Avoid leaving your phone in direct sunlight, inside a car, or in extremely cold environments.

7. Don’t always charge to 100%

The ideal charging range for lithium-ion batteries is between 20% and 80%. Constantly charging to 100% can reduce battery capacity over time.

8. Use a reliable charger and cable

Always use a manufacturer-recommended or certified charger. Cheap, low-quality chargers are not only slower but can also damage the battery.

9. Keep your system up to date

Software updates often include battery optimization improvements. Make sure your operating system and apps are always up to date.

10. Disable unnecessary notifications

Every notification wakes up the screen and system. Keep notifications enabled only for apps that truly matter.

With these simple yet effective tips, your phone won’t just last longer during the day — you’ll also help maintain your battery’s health in the long run. A little attention can make a noticeable difference in everyday use.
